'TOP END TIMES', Sarah Mackie, 2017

Through this series of photographs I hope to inspire a connection and sense of wonder to nature, our country, our land, and its heritage in the viewer.

Whilst living in the Northern Territory and on the road for the last year, driving and camping through the varying landscape I wanted to create a series of images that captured the diverse nature of our continent and the ever changing climate and surroundings. Furthermore from my time living up north I came to a greater appreciation of the original custodians of this land and wanted to pay homage to this through my work.

Each of the photographs will be accompanied by anecdotal & historical information around:

- The geographic location according to the conventional map of Australia and the Indigenous map of Australia.

- Information on any other form of flora within the image.

- Stories related to when the image was captured

As the viewers stand in front of each image to, they will be taken by the beauty of the landscape, transported to a meditative quiet space. By printing these images in a large format image, the viewer will feel as though they are standing in front of each vista themselves.

Acknowledging the heritage of the land: each photograph will be linked to a description of it's geographical area relevant to the Indigenous map of Australia. Through this I hope to inspire a greater knowledge and appreciation of this original history and connection to our country.

Boodjamulla lies on the ancient sandstone of the Constance Range, between the Barkly Tablelands to the southwest and the black soils of the Gulf Savanna Plains to the east. Lawn Hill Creek and the Gregory and O’Shannasy rivers flow all year round, providing a stark contrast to the dry, parched landscape during the dry season.
